MINDLESS yobs may have jeopardised vital clues to a brutal robbery.
A group of vandals who attacked a CCTV camera outside Tesco Express on Kilnhouse Lane on Sunday July 13 could have prevented clear images of a burglary, which happened three weeks later, being obtained.
Meat-cleaver wielding masked raiders escaped
with a cash box after robbing a Group 4 Securicor man outside the same store on August 7.
And although CCTV images were available of the incident from inside the shop, the yobs had smashed a camera which was trained on the front of the store, the entrance the robbers came in through.
An eyewitness at the scene of the robbery told the Express that theCCTV camera was "hanging off" and had been taken down.
This has fuelled speculation that better images of the robbery could have been obtained, if the camera had not have been vandalised.
Tesco bosses have yet to comment on the issue, although question marks over why the camera was not repaired are yet to be answered.
Anyone who has information on the robbery can contact police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
Alternatively, if you can identify the yobs who damaged the CCTV camera, then phone (01253) 293933 and speak to DC David Higham or PC Richard James, quoting Crime Number AL-0802102.
