CONTROVERSY surrounds last week's decision by Fylde Council to close St Annes' public swimming baths.
But how many readers remember another long gone feature of St Annes promenade?
The St Annes open air baths used to be a major haunt for local people and visitors alike.
They were the venue for bathing beauty competitions in the 1950s, which were usually judged by the stars of the day who were appearing at Blackpool's summer season shows.
As late as 1980, the open air pool was enjoying record visitor numbers.
