IT'S the ice-ing on the cake for Lytham this Christmas!
A 300 metre square synthetic ice rink will be take pride of place Lytham Piazza thanks to local businesswoman Michelle Wilden.
She came up with the idea after becoming concerned that festive cheer would be in short supply in the town following the council's decision to give just £1,500 to the Chamber of Trade towards the cost of the Lights this year.
But Blackpool based Trans-Continental Group, run by Lytham husband and wife team Rosie and Mike Withers, have since stepped in and offered £3,000 worth of lights.
And now Michelle, who part-own's ice rink rental company wonder ice, is providing the facility free of charge to ensure that Christmas is very much back on in the town.
Michelle said: "The whole town has really pulled together on this one. All the traders are behind it and I think it will really be really good for Lytham."
John Strong, Chairman of Lytham Chamber of Trade, thinks that the rink will give trade in Lytham a boost in the run up to Christmas.
He said: "It will be good thing and will bring people into the town. It's something that nowhere else in the Fylde Coast has got so it's definitely good news."
The rink will be erected on the piazza before being officially unveiled on December 4 and will remain open until January 6.
Skating will cost £6 for adults and £4.50 for children for 45 minute sessions. Disabled skate facilities will be available.
