THE Environment Agency is holding a free drop-in session to give residents of Lytham an opportunity to gain practical help and advice on how to prepare for, and stay safe during a flood.
The event will be held at Lytham Assembly Rooms, Dicconson Terrace, between 4pm and 7pm, on Tuesday, November 4.
More than 8,000 properties along the Lancashire coast, from Fleetwood to Blackpool, are at risk of flooding.
Although the Environment
Agency continues to work to try and reduce the risk of flooding, it cannot always be prevented.
Glyn Vaughan, Environment Agency Flood Risk Manager, said: "We're continually working to raise awareness about the risk of flooding, it affects so many people yet over half those at risk don't know it. We want people to find out if they are at risk, and to be prepared."
Flood Awareness Officer, Helena Rafala, added: "It is vital local residents take this opportunity to find out if they're at risk and how to prepare for a flood. The effects of flooding can be devastating but being prepared can help to reduce the damage and distress it causes. Anyone can make use of the advice on offer, whether they're at direct risk or not."
The Environment Agency currently issue flood warnings for areas at risk of flooding from rivers and the sea. Flooding from surface water is also a problem and cannot be predicted.
At the drop-in Environment Agency staff will be on hand to offer simple, practical advice about how to prepare for and stay safe during a flood, including how to put together a flood pack with all the essential items you may need during a flood.
