A NUMBER of residents have contacted the Express to comment on our report of Freckleton Club Day last week.
Some readers pointed out that a number of events were cancelled due to inclement weather.
Among them were Coun Colin Robb, who said the same weather which ruined the Blackpool dog show also "ruined" the Freckleton Club Day event.
He pointed out the procession of witness was shortened; the ceremonies were completed early by 10.45am; the rose queens were unable to walk from the village centre to Bush Lane playing fields and sports events were cancelled later in the day due to the rain. Coun Robb added the children's sports were held on the Monday evening instead.
And residents Jean and Bill Adam state: "It started to rain as the procession set off at 9.30am. The route was shortened due to the weather, so ceremonies were completed earlier than noon."
They also pointed out the sports had to be cancelled, adding that they were "two of the many people who took part in the procession and got very wet".
Cath Lancaster, of Bush Lane, wrote: "The weekend was ruined for all the children and adults who worked all year for this day."
