CELBRATIONS were underway at the Old Vicarage care home in Freckleton, marking the 100th birthday of one resident.
Sarah Cottrill reached the milestone on Tuesday, and she has lived a hard-working and happy life.

Sarah came to the Fylde from Frizington in Cumbria to help look after a set of triplets in St Annes Road East. She went on to work as a house keeper.

Sarah married Alan Cottrill in 1934. The couple had a daughter, Suzanne in 1937 and a son John in 1940. She has six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Her husband Alan ran an engineering works in St Annes.

She met Alan at a Parish Room dance, where she could regularly be found dancing the night away.

Sarah's daughter Suzanne said: "My mum has always been a very hard-working woman. She was committed to keeping her family fed and has always been caring for other people."

And Suzanne was grateful to the Old Vicarage for marking the occasion in style.

She said: "The staff at the Old Vicarage put on a wonderful party for my mum. The lounge is full of flowers and cards from friends and family and there was a very steady flow of guests coming and going throughout the day."
