THE Ship at Elswick has been rewarded with a Best Bar None status for its excellence in the licensed trade and leisure industries.

Owner, Debra Grierson, said: "Although we have always ensured that our customers can dine and drink without any worries relating to safety, it is great to have our standards endorsed by an external third party.

"We fully support the aims and objectives of Best Bar None and are proud to now become one of their recognised venues."

Best Bar None is a recognised award scheme supported by the Home Office.

It promotes responsible management and operation of alcohol-licensed premises and has been adopted by many towns and cities across the UK, following its 2003 launch in Manchester.

Becoming a Best Bar None accredited venue signals how well you manage your business.

The scheme encourages a partnership between official agencies, such as the police, and the licensed trade, as both strive to improve the safety of the night time economy.
