THE parking nightmare for residents living close to the main Kirkham and Wesham Station could soon be over.
Plans to provide new car parking at the rail station are currently under discussion as part of a major overhaul of the facility.

People living close to the station say they experience problems because rail passengers park their cars all day – and sometimes for several weeks – outside their homes.

Now local groups are seeking to 'adopt' the station to boost facilities – along similar lines to the adoption scheme at Poulton Station.

As a result of a merger between the Wesham Community Pride Trust and the Kirkham in Bloom groups, the rail authorities are looking into providing alternative parking in the vicinity of the station for commuters.

The parking initiative is just one of many being looked into following the merger of the two bodies.

They will work together on an enhancement project in the hope that the station can be improved for residents and commuters alike.

Several meetings have already taken place with the railway authorities to discuss how the two groups, with the help of Kirkham Prison and Lancashire County Council, will tackle the enhancement.

A programme of work has now been drawn up.

Kirkham Coun Liz Oades said: "The groups hope to improve the station entrance, refurbish the booking hall and carry out improvements to the steps and the platform, including painting benches and lamps. The groups also intend to clear vegetation and shrubbery, plant beds and provide floral enhancements."

Members are also proposing to work with Kirkham and Wesham Primary School to enable pupils' artwork to be displayed in the booking hall.
