FYLDE MP Michael Jack has written to Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Andy Burnham as part of efforts to save Kirkham Swimming Baths from closure.
The baths are set to shut in March after being earmarked for closure as part of cost cutting measures by Fylde Council.
But a group called Rural Splash has set up a detailed business plan to run the baths as a charitable trust.
And after looking at the plans, Mr Jack was so impressed that he felt compelled to write to the culture secretary.
He said: "I've had a look at the plans for Kirkham baths and I have to say I'm very impressed.
"The plans for the building look very impressive and I think the business plan is viable and well thought out.
"In the nicest possible way I think Kirkham has really got off its backside and done something."
In July the government announced details of a free swimming scheme in partnership with local government.
As part of a two point package swimmers over 60 and under 16 will go free and money will also be made available to local authorities to refurbish and modernise pool provision.
And Mr Jack believes that Kirkham could be eligible for some of this cash.
"I have written to Andy Burnham to find out if Kirkham would qualify. The only question mark is that Rural Splash is a charitable trust rather than a local authority. Let's just hope it's a positive outcome - there's a lot to play for."
