CONTROVERSIAL plans for a huge retail and leisure development in rural Fylde were being discussed by Fylde Council yesterday (Wednesday).
BAE Systems was seeking approval to develop a 19-acre site between Warton and Freckleton in a multi-million pound scheme including a business park, hotel, pub/restaurant and shops.
And as The Express went to press, the plans were still being considered at a meeting at Freckleton Community Centre.
Local councillors say there are concerns in both villages about the impact of the development.
Fears have been raised that the plans could have an adverse affect on local businesses and will be bringing an overwhelming amount of traffic to the roads in and around the Lytham Road site.
But BAE Systems says it has listened to concerns after carrying out a voluntary consultation on the plans.
A spokesperson for BAE Systems said: "We have undertaken an extensive consultation process involving local residents and taken their views into account.
"That is why we scaled down the development by halving the size of the supermarket and getting rid of the petrol station before we resubmitted the plans.
"We believe this is something that will give Warton a big boost by providing more local amenities as well as bringing a significant number of new jobs to the area."
