AN £8,000 windfall has gone to a local village hall.

Newton with Clifton village hall has received the funding boost from SITA Trust to replace a number of old sheds which were used by the scouts, the local play group and for storage.

The sheds, which started out as chicken houses on a farm in the village, were given to the hall some years ago, but had become dilapidated and the target for vandals and the local rodent population.

There had been several proposals to improve the facilities for storage at the hall over the years, but none addressed replacing all of the sheds at the same time.

Four sheds have now been replaced by three purpose-built units supplied by Oakenclough Buildings of Garstang.

The project also included the provision of electricity and lighting to the sheds for added security.

SITA Trust provides funding through the Landfill Communities Fund. Funding is available for community and environmental groups to carry out a range of improvement projects.
