ABSOLUTELY first class – that's the verdict from postman Nigel Broster following his trip to Wembley.
Nigel, aged 40, and 10 pals, travelled down on one of the official coaches, setting off at about 7.45am on Saturday.
And he described the wonderful experience as “one of the best days ever in my life”.
Nigel, born and bred in Kirkham, who has j
ust moved jobs to be a postman in York, kindly brought in some photographs he took from the fabulous day.
He said: “The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant, their fans were great as well. Walking up Wembley Way, we were talking to them and there was good, friendly banter.
“Going down on the coach we even had a game of bingo to pass the time. It was a good family day out.”
The nerves started jangling though when Kirkham and Wesham went 1-0 down.
“We were on edge once the own goal went in, but to be honest, they never really looked like scoring again,” said Nigel.
“After our first goal went in it looked like there would be only one winner because they were tiring.
“There was a great sigh of relief after our first goal and everyone got behind the team then because they realised there was a great chance of winning it.”
And the winning goal?
“It was just absolute joy. Everyone just jumped up. It was total elation,” beamed Nigel.
“We were outnumbered by their fans one to five, there were 19,5000 down there in total.”
Nigel said the he and his friends stayed behind in the stadium for the celebrations as the Lowestoft supporters made their way home.
“They had all disappeared by the time we got out after the celebrations. We must have been there half an hour after the game celebrating.
“We cracked a bottle of champagne before we got back on the coach to come back. Hopefully next year we’ll get there again.”
