Proud day with Queen

OBE recipient Steve Riley enjoyed a grand day out at the palace.
Father-of-four Steve, who lives on Shalbourn Road, St Annes, was given the award for public and voluntary service after working at the Department for Work and Pensions for 33 years.
He was told about the honour back in June and collected the award at the
official ceremony at Buckingham Palace last week.
He said: "It was very enjoyable and we had a fantastic day – Buckingham Palace was just as grand as I thought it was going to be.
"The Queen was very warm and friendly but I can't really remember what she said,
because it was all over so quickly."
Having started as a clerical officer in his home town of Huyton in Merseyside back in 1974, Steve has enjoyed successive promotions and is now a senior IT director.
But, despite his success, Steve said his achievements seemed insignificant compared to some of those who were also being awarded alongside him.
"On the same day as me there were members of the Royal Gurkha Rifles being honoured for their bravery. It put anything I had done into perspective."
Fylde rugby legend Bill Beaumont visited the palace a few weeks ago to collect his CBE for his services to the game.
Council volunteer Neil Froggett, charity fundraiser Andrew Brown and Angie Hesketh, a school governor who has worked at Job Centreplus for 23 years, were other locals honoured.
